Port Metro Vancouver (PMV) released its 2008 cargo statistics that illustrate that while unprecedented worldwide economic difficulties have had a significant effect on global trade, the Port has demonstrated stability and resiliency during this period.

Overall tonnage of 114,559,973 metric tonnes declined 10% compared to 2007, while the auto and container sectors were stable, in contrast to other West Coast ports. Commodities such as coal, potash and petroleum products experienced moderate increases. In contrast, breakbulk, mineral and forest product volumes were significantly lower.

Container traffic declined by 2% from the previous year, at 2,492,107 TEU (twenty-foot-equivalent unit).

PMV saw an 11% decline from 2007 in the number of revenue cruise passengers with a total of 254 sailings compared to 275 in 2007.

If live egg masses are discovered, the containers will be moved and cleaned immediately by CFIA at a location within the terminal.  View CFIA Notice.
