Individuals requiring access to restricted areas within the Port of Vancouver are required to have a valid port pass.

On behalf of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the Chamber of Shipping is assisting with the issuance of Port Passes under an agency of trust agreement.

Please note that while the Chamber of Shipping issues Port Passes, the privilege of access to port property and the facilities within the port’s jurisdiction is left at the discretion of the port and the individual terminal operators.  The Chamber of Shipping cannot be held responsible if you are denied access.

 

1.  Sponsorship

Each company that is not a member of the Chamber of Shipping must obtain sponsorship from a Chamber of Shipping member company, a facility operator or the Port of Vancouver which must be confirmed by the sponsor via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. > If you conduct business on-board vessels, you must obtain sponsorship from a shipping line or cruise line agency.

>  If you only provide services to terminal operators and do not require access to vessels, then you must obtain sponsorship from a designated terminal security officer. 

>  The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority will sponsor its tenant companies that require access to port property.

>   Cruise Ship Contractors/Suppliers must obtain sponsorship from the Cruise Line’s local Vancouver agent or Cerescorp or the cruise line directly.


2.  Submitting List of Sponsored Employees

Using the Sponsorship Request Form every company, member or non-member, must present the Chamber of Shipping with a current employee list, providing the legal name, date of birth, gender, height, eye colour, sponsorship expirty date, existing port pass number (if applicable), and whether a Marine Transportation Security Clearance is required. 

If your company is sponsored by a terminal operator that has access to the Port of Vancouver's on-line sponsorship portal, you can request the terminal security officer to upload the details of the individuals sponsored directly into the portal.

3.  Completing the On-line Port Pass Application

At any time, individual applicants may complete the On-line Port Pass Application form.  Once the sponsorship information has been submitted to the Chamber of Shipping and uploaded, and the on-line application has been completed, the applicant will receive an email to book an appointment with one of our Access Control Officers.  Note that if your port pass was issued by another entity, it may take a few extra days to have the port pass transferred to our offices for further processing.  

Please be sure to select the Chamber of Shipping as the intended publisher on the application form. 

If you do not have access to the On-line Application form, please call our office for an appointment.  When you arrive at the office, you will be required to complete the on-line application at the time of your appointment.

We work strictly on an appointment basis only and cannot accept walk-ins.  If the sponsorship documents and the on-line application have been completed and you have not received an email to our on-line appointment book system within two business days, please call us at 604-681-2351.  

4.  Appointment for the Port Pass 

On the date of your appointment, a completed On-line Port Pass Application is required and you will be required to present the following items:

  1. Any previously issue port pass, if applicable;

  2. One form of acceptable identification with photo noted below; and

  3. Payment in the form of cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard or debit card.  Members of the Chamber of Shipping or Western Marine Community Coalition have the option of being invoiced directly.

Chamber of Shipping Members:

1 year new:               $20 plus GST =  $21.00
1 year renewal:         $10 plus GST =  $10.50
5 year new:               $50 plus GST =  $52.50
5 year renewal:         $50 plus GST =  $52.50

 Non-Members

1 year new:               $30 plus GST =  $31.50
1 year renewal:         $15 plus GST =  $15.75
5 year new:               $75 plus GST =  $78.75
5 year renewal:         $75 plus GST =  $78.75


As of July 1, 2016 the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's lost port pass fee will apply for port pass replacements - fees start at $60 for the 1st occurrence.

5.  Identification accepted by the Port of Vancouver

One piece of Primary Identification. Please note that we cannot accept expired pieces of ID. (Only those listed below will be accepted):

Acceptable Primary ID:

>  BC Drivers License
>  Any Government Issued Photo ID (Passport, Citizenship Card, Firearms License, etc.)

 Unacceptable ID:

> Social Insurance Number
> Credit Cards
> Costco Cards
> Company or Union ID Cards
