$7.8M for Port McNeill's Waterfront

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Island Coastal Economic Trust and the Municipality of Port McNeill are working together to fund the project, which will significantly improve the usability of the Port McNeill Harbour and allow for a greater number of visiting recreational, commercial fishing and industry vessels. As well the project will create a new public park and aims to create a prominent social centre for the town on its waterfront. Full News Release.

New Fines Set For Marine Safety Violations

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the coming into force of the new Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations. The regulations establish a comprehensive and consistent method outside of the courts for penalizing marine safety violations across Canada.

VFPA River Service Centre

On January 1, 2008 the three Lower Mainland port authorities, Fraser River Port Authority, North Fraser Port Authority and Vancouver Port Authority amalgamated to continue as the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA).

As part of our ongoing committment to ensuring customers and stakeholders continue to receive excellent levels of service, the VFPA will be maintaining the Vancouver office at Canada Place, and the New Westminster office as a River Service Centre, effective June 15th.

Transport Minister Announces Rail Services Review

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the start of the rail freight service review by inviting comments from interested parties on the draft terms of reference for the review.

"Shippers need an effective, efficient, consistent, and reliable rail transportation supply chain to remain competitive in domestic, continental, and international markets," said Minister Cannon. "There is widespread support for this review because it will identify service problems and their impacts and make recommendations to improve Canada's rail freight logistics system."
