$5M To Build Cruise Terminal in Nanaimo

NANAIMO – The Province will invest $5 million to further develop a cruise ship facility in Nanaimo’s inner harbour that is expected to draw up to 50 cruise ship visits annually, Premier Gordon Campbell and Nanaimo-Parksville MLA Ron Cantelon announced today.

Asian Gypsy Moth Entry Policy for Ships

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that the high risk period for Asian gypsy moth introduction via ship entering Canadian ports began March 1, 2008.  Directive 95-03 policy remains unchanged from the previous year.  The list of high risk vessels from 2006-07 has been updated.  Please continue to check the CFIA website for updates and note the list of high risk vessel is not exhaustive.

Rail Safety Act Review Report Tabled

Transport Canada News Release 

OTTAWA — The Railway Safety Act (RSA) review report, Stronger Ties: A Shared Commitment to Railway Safety, was tabled today in the House of Commons by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. Minister Cannon launched a review of the RSA in December 2006. The report presents the findings, including more than 50 recommendations to improve rail safety in Canada.
