Workboat - Deckhand


Primary Location:    Kitimat, British Columbia
Employee Status:    Full Time / Part Time / Casual / Contract

Position Outline:
The Deckhand is to be an ambassador for Bridgemans and our safety management system in their personal conduct as part of the crew.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Master responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Safety of passengers during embarking, disembarking and when underway
• Verifying that clients are wearing the project required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before boarding the vessel
• Assisting clients during loading/unloading equipment to and from the vessel both onshore and offshore
• Perform safety induction of clients
• Monitor transfer of client cargo and record as required
• Record client transfers for DPR as required by Master
• Operate crane and perform cargo handling (Rigger/Banksman) if certified, as required
• Deck duties
• Daily sanitation of deck, galley, fridge, microwave oven, main cabin, lavatories
• Maintenance as directed by the Master and according to the Planned Maintenance System
• Both Master and Deckhand will work together to carry out engine and other vessel checks in accordance with the Daily Routine.
• Oversight and assistance with day to day general maintenance

Physical Aspects of Position (includes but are not limited to):
• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
• Climbing in and out of vessels, walking on floating pontoons and standing on a vessel in a seaway
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
• Safety oriented and willing and able to work in a multi-cultural environment

Required Certification
• Marine Emergency Duties A3 (MED A3)
• Radio Operators Certificate – Marine (ROC-M)
• Marine Basic or Advanced First Aid (MBFA) / (MAFA)
• Valid Seafarers Medical certificate (MMC)
• Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring with addition to randomly without prior notice
Desired Certification
• Transport Canada - Candidate Data Number (CDN)
• Marine emergency Duties Domestic Vessel Safety (MED A2 / DVS)
