March 28, 2014 - Tokitae

     Washington State’s First Olympic-Class Ferry Tokitae The new Washington State Ferry Tokitae was christened last week at the Seattle shipyard of Vigor Industrial  by State Secretary of Transportation Ms. Lynn Peterson. The second ferry, Samish, is under construction at the same yard. Following sea trials and crew training, Tokitae will enter service on the Mukilteo-Clinton route in June this year. Meanwhile, Samish is expected to serve the San Juan Islands beginning early next year. In a press statement, Vigor also revealed that Washington State has also approved funding for a third sister vessel which is expected to serve the Seattle-Bremerton route. Construction of Tokitae is estimated to have provided approximately 500 jobs at Vigor and its subcontractors. March 7, 2014 - Maersk Viking

            Maersk Viking – ultra deepwater drillship Maersk Drilling this week took delivery of its first ultra deepwater drillship. She is the first in a series of four such drillships to enter Maersk Drilling’s fleet in 2014, representing a total investment of $2.6 billion. The vessel has already begun its voyage to the US Gulf of Mexico where it will commence a three year contract with ExxonMobil.           Silja Festival to be renamed Delta Spirit Lodge The former Baltic Sea ferrySilja Festival will arrive on Saturday at Vancouver Drydock at approx. 1800 this weekend for a Transport Canada inspection has been chartered to act as an accommodation vessel for workers in Kitimat. She will berth at the former Eurocan dock and is to be renamed Delta Spirit Lodge during the term of her employment.
